How to make sweet potato chaat – variations:
Though we think the best sweet potato chaat recipes keep it simple and just garnish with tamarind chutney (imli chutney) and pomegranate, there are several delicious variations that can be tried. You can garnish sweet and tangy shakarkandi ki chaat with fresh chopped cilantro, chopped onion, roasted and crushed peanuts, sev, crushed papdi, pomegranate arils, and a sweet chutney of your choice.
We love imli (tamarind) chutney with our shakarkandi chaat, but you can also add hari (green) chutney if you like.
You can also sprinkle plain yogurt (dahi) or yogurt seasoned with various roasted spices (as in dahi sev puri) for some variation on the traditional sweet potato chaat.
For extra bite and crunch, and for a pop of colour, add cubed cucumber, diced apple, bean sprouts, and sliced kamrakh (carambola or star fruit).
You can also drizzle some lime juice over the shakarkandi ki chaat for extra sourness or serve it with lemon wedges on the side.
